McCloskey & Carden: "The alternative to respecting individual dignity is deciding economic matters collectively, through the government, a government seized by political 'competition.' After all, there are only two ways to get other people to do what you would like them to do, such as providing your dinner. You can coerce them, by private or public violence; get the government to do it. Or you can persuade them, by persuasion or offers of money."
